Chawton and Jane Austen Tour
Discover with me this quintessentially English village and the links to its most famous resident
Service Description
Chawton is a quintessentially English village nestled inside the South Downs National Park. It is as pretty as a postcard, with charming thatched cottages, a lovely public park, and a little stone church tucked away in the beautiful southern England countryside. But above all, Chawton is the place where Jane Austen lived happily for the last eight years of her life and wrote most of her novels, including Pride and Prejudice and Emma. On this one-and-a-half-hour tour in English, I will take you on a journey of discovery through the village that Jane Austen knew and loved and provide you with information about the connections between many village cottages and Jane’s life. In addition, I will also give you glimpse into what life is like in an English village today based on my personal experience of living here in Chawton. The tour starts and ends outside Jane Austen's House and departs promptly at the scheduled time, so please arrive a bit earlier to join the group. The walk is easy and relaxed, but I would suggest wearing comfortable shoes and suitable clothes for the unpredictable British weather. The tour is on pavements, but there are a couple of short sections on grassy and dirt areas, so it may not be suitable for people in wheelchairs or mobility scooters. For further information on accessibility, please do not hesitate to contact me at ciao@passionecampagnainglese.com If the tour is not available on your preferred date, please contact me at the email address above. I will do my best to accommodate your needs, if possible. If you're interested in learning more about Jane Austen, I would highly recommend visiting Jane Austen’s House or Chawton House before or after my tour. Entrance to both Jane Austen’s House and Chawton House is NOT included in my tour and must be booked separately. I highly recommended that you book your visit to Jane Austen's House in advance, as admission is limited. For more information, please visit janeaustens.house. In Chawton, there is a country pub, The Greyfriar, and two tea rooms, Cassandra's Cup and The Old Kitchen, that is located inside Chawton House. Both tea rooms offer light lunches, homemade cakes and scones. By booking the tour through this website, you declare that you have read and accept all the conditions set out in the General Terms & Conditions, Terms of Service and Privacy Policy published in the Legal Notice section of this website. Please read these documents carefully before booking.
