It's fair to say that few shows have done more to make the English countryside known and loved across the world than Downton Abbey.
This hit TV series, wonderfully written by Julian Fellowes and performed by a fantastic cast, including one of my favourite actresses, the late Dame Maggie Smith, is an amazing portrayal of English rural life and traditions in early 1900s, seen from the perspective of both the aristocracy and the servants.
But Downton Abbey isn't just a world of fantasy. There are some special places in the wonderful countryside of southern England where both the TV series and the films were filmed - and they're open for everyone to visit.
In this first video dedicated to my favourite TV show, I explore the locations of Downton Abbey, starting with the majestic stately residence that gives the franchise its name and is a 'must' for any fan of Carson and Lady Mary - with surprising connections to Italy and Canada.
