2025 is a special year for Jane Austen's because marks the 250th anniversary of her birth.
As a passionate Janeite, I have decided to celebrate this amazing writer with a video dedicated to exploring the connections between her and Chawton, the Hampshire village I'm lucky enough to call home.
Chawton is a quintessentially English village in the heart of the South Downs National Park and is where the author of masterpieces like Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Sense and Sensibility lived the last eight years of her life and wrote or completed most of her novels.
Chawton is surely the place Jane was happiest after Steventon (where she was born) and where she started writing again after taking a break from it following her move to Bath with her family in 1801.
In this video, filmed during Jane Austen Regency Week 2025, I take you on a tour of this wonderful village and show you the places linked to the life of this giant of world literature
If you're not a Jane Austen fan but love English villages and picture-postcard cottages, don't worry though: Chawton is one of the most beautiful villages in southern England so I'm sure you won't be disappointed!
The video is in Italian but has proper English subtitles that can be activated on YouTube by selecting CC in Settings and choosing English (United Kingdom) from the dropdown.
