Southern England, and in particular the South Downs National Park, is peppered with picture-postcard villages that look like something straight out of a fairy tale. These enchanting places offer visitors and residents alike the chance to enjoy the beauty of nature along with a very high quality of life.

The South Downs National Park was established in 2010 and stretches across three counties in the south-east of England: Hampshire, West Sussex and East Sussex.

Although not particularly well known abroad, but loved by the Brits, the park is one of the most beautiful, affluent and authentic areas of the English countryside. Above all, it is different from all other English national parks: rather than being just a beautiful protected natural area, the South Downs are deeply shaped by human presence. It's a magical place where the people have lived for centuries in harmony with a stunning landscape and created an ecosystem where nature, culture and tradition blend in an almost perfect balance.

But what makes this park truly unique is the fact that, within its boundaries, the vast majority of people live in villages with a few thousand (and often only a few hundred) people, or in small, historic market towns with less than 20,000 residents. It is a vast network of enchanting little communities spread across 100 miles of beautiful countryside that is almost unmatched in England.

In this video, I take you on a journey of discovery of one of these enchanting places. A medieval village so quintessentially English that is universally considered the most beautiful village in East Sussex.
