When one thinks of the English countryside, the image that usually comes to mind is that of gentle rolling hills, emerald‑green meadows, and quaint fairy‑tale cottages draped in roses.
Few associate this idealised world with vast windswept highlands, sudden mists, and immense stretches of heather that seem to go on forever.
And yet, the moorland is one of the most authentic and defining landscapes of Great Britain: a muffled, silent, boundless world where the gaze runs to the horizon and time itself seems to slow down. A place where one can truly experience a sense of absolute freedom that is hard to find elsewhere.
This is why, in the third episode of my mini‑series “Wonders of the English Countryside”, I take you to Dartmoor, one of the two national parks in Devon.
Dartmoor is the wild heart of England: a vast heather‑clad plateau shaped by wind, rain, and the slow passing of time.
It is one of the most remote and unspoilt landscapes in the United Kingdom, a mystical place capable of stirring unique emotions.
If you want to explore a world suspended between legend and magic, a place of endless horizons and an almost otherworldly atmosphere, don’t miss this video!
The video is in Italian but has properly edited subtitles in English that you can activate on YouTube by selecting CC in Settings and choosing English (United Kingdom) from the list.
